Overview This is a product design role for the Terex boom products and will be tasked with developing and applying reliable engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. Responsibilities Implement technical projects in the design, development, testing and documentation of bridge inspection platform products. Perform design and analysis of steel and aluminum components and welded structures, and electrical and hydraulic control systems. Develop new designs from initial concept to implementation and improve existing designs. Verify and document compliance with applicable ANSI and international standards. Specify component and machine testing, create procedures and detail testing processes. Work closely with senior design engineers and sustain a dynamic and creative engineering work atmosphere. Document designs with solid part models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks. Verify designs using traditional analytical methods in conjunction with dynamic and finite element analysis software. Create and maintain complete machine product structures including bills of materials, Models and Options, and service parts information. Research, specify and test manufactured and purchased parts working closely with the materials group and suppliers. Maintain a focus on design for manufacturability and work closely with the ME department and production facility to assist in product and process improvements. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  • ABET accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology with a US state EIT certificate
  • 2+ years of experience in machine design
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient with solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Excellent PC skills including Excel and Word
  • Experience in machine design or related industry
  • Ability to follow sequenced work associated with complex design tasks
  • Demonstrated team player qualities
  • Experience with engineering changes and documentation processes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong orientation towards safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Desired Skills:
  • Ability to perform detailed component and machine testing procedures
  • Knowledge of industry standards and requirements
  • Ability to work on the shop floor
  • Structural and stability analysis experience including FEA
  • Experience with design of electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Understanding of and commitment to Lean Manufacturing
