Successful candidate will provide support in the General Office Nuclear Chemistry Technical Staff.
The preferred candidate will have experience in the following area:
Boiling Water Reactor Chemistry.
Candidate will interface with peers at other Duke nuclear sites and other companies on a regular basis.
Specific accountabilities include
Provide oversight and support to the Chemistry Department of the Duke Energy Fleet Boiling Water Reactors.
Designs and conducts scientific studies and analyses to support the safe and efficient operation of generating facilities.
Resolves various scientific/technical problems throughout the company.
Provides guidance in interpreting and monitoring compliance with governmental regulations and industry guidelines
Develops and oversees the use of appropriate sampling and monitoring procedures/guidelines
Interfaces with industry/environmental groups and regulatory agencies
Prepares/reviews technical documents for regulatory, audit, and other groups.
Coordinates activities related to assigned scientific projects/programs/operational systems.
Provides work direction to other scientific/technical personnel, as needed.
Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
Bachelor degree or higher in science or chemical engineering from accredited university, and Ten years or more of experience in an operating BWR nuclear station or related role.
Work experience or related knowledge of Boiling Water Reactor Chemistry and resin theory and demineralizer and filter operations.
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems which are very complex in nature.
Some problems can be resolved using available precedents, procedures, and guidelines; however, there will be many problems for which there are no existing guidelines or precedents.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple organizations and all levels of management to achieve desired objectives, using the appropriate department and site processes/programs and negotiation skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and effective communication skills (written and oral) and ability to meet commitment while managing multiple objectives and projects.
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in chemistry or chemical engineering from accredited university.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions in specific areas of expertise; ability to evaluate and select best alternative solution or action in a timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to
develop, coordinate, implement, and lead scientific studies/projects/programs/operational systems.
Demonstrated ability to represent company with vendors, regulatory agencies, and other departments.
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize computer technology as the job demands
Ability to persuade others to accept one's ideas or proposals.
Effectively negotiates with others to reach an agreement which will meet the organization's needs and those of others.
As required by the job, successful completion of company-sponsored technical training.
Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations, readily adapt to and accept changes in work schedule, priorities, and job expectations.
Self-motivated and able to advance projects without management involvement.
Candidate may be considered for higher graded positions commensurate with experience and education, i.e.
Scientist, Engineer, Sr Scientist or Sr Engineer.
