Newmont will sponsor a summer student employment program for Newmont employee dependents. The intent of this program is to provide temporary labor to the various Nevada mine sites by hiring college students, who are dependents of a Newmont Nevada employee, during the summer break. We believe this is a great opportunity for both the departments in need of supplemental manpower during the summer months and the students who would like to earn money for college. Assignments will be determined by Newmont's operations workforce needs.
Essential job duties will include:
Perform manual labor including, but not limited to shoveling, weed removal, painting, spraying herbicide, moving leach pipe, and general clean-up.
Organize and file documents in an office setting.
Perform computer data entry as directed.
Transport materials between worksites or mine sites.
This position may work outside in hot or inclement weather.
Perform continuous and repeated bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying tools and other items weighing up to 40 pounds as required to perform assigned duties.
Operate small hand tools weighing up to 5 pounds.
Hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms, including heavy equipment back up alarms, blast sirens, fire alarms, and various warning alarms in mills and ships.
Hold and operate a telephone or radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of following work assignment and providing feedback.
Wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, rain gear, earplugs, gloves, or any equipment need to perform duties.
Operate a light vehicle.
May be required to spend frequent periods sitting or standing in one location, with limited opportunity to move about.
Frequent working at a computer/monitor or keyboard may be required.
Candidate must be a dependent student child of a full-time Nevada employee.
Must be a college student who has completed 24 college credits and are enrolled in a continuing education program in the fall following summer employment with Newmont.
Must be 18 years old by May 31, 2013.
A valid driver's license will be required if there is a possibility that you may be driving on county and/or state roads.
The application deadline is March 30, 2013. Students who meet the above criteria will be selected via random drawing if we receive more applications than there are positions available. Successful candidates will be notified by the end of April. All summer students will be required to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.
