Position Summary This position assists the Transport RN and RRT with patient care while utilizing their advanced skills and training in occordance with the Transport Protocols set forth by the Medical Director. The Paramedic will function independently during the transport of patients ranging in age from zero to18 years who have been classified as BLS and/or ALS I catagory. The paramedic will have and active role in managing the customer service experience during the transport of patient and familie members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs transport of patients to procedures,tests performed off hospital campus and multiple treatment facilities upon discharge. The paramedic will perform basic and advance skills when deemed appropriate while utilizing the transport paramedic protocols.
  • Able to operate monitors, IV pumps and other patient care equipment used during the transport of patients
  • Performs all BLS and advanced skills during patient care including but not limited to, initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning; insertion of NG/OG tubes and insertion and maintaining of an Endotrachael Tube
  • Responds quickly to patient and family needs while collaborating with the transport RN and RRT on a treatment plan during transports
  • Assists in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions, and or participating as a vital member of the transport team
  • Assists and performs independently with regulatory readiness, inventory of equipment on ambulance and store rooms, and daily checks of the mechanical function of the ambulance
  • Perform documentation of patient care in a computerized data base program as specified by department and hospital guidelines
  • Demonstrates initial and yearly advance skills as identified by the transport competency checklist
  • Maintains proficiency in the following skills:
Advanced airway management
Peripheral IV insertion and fluid administration
Oxygen and aerosol administration
  • Maintains a safe patient environment at all times
  • Ability to meet physical and non-physical demands as outlined in the job description is an essential function of the job
  • Quarterly rotation in the OR for intubations, monthly transport M&M meetings, and be an active member on one of the transport or hospital based committees

Qualifications Education High school diploma required; additional training beyond high school

Licenses and certifications Licenses & certifications
  • State of Texas and/or National Registry Paramedic certification
  • Paramedic with current state certification
  • Current course C BLS/CPR and PALS certifications
  • ACLS
  • PHTLS

Experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years of job related experience
  • At least 1 year experience in acute care / emergency setting

  • Must demonstrate ability to function independently
  • Must possess the ability to make sound judgments concerning need to refer situations to more skilled practitioners
  • Must possess the ability to interact with other health care professional in a concise and professional manner
  • Must possess the ability to provide excellent customer service at all times
  • Must possess the ability to meet physical requirements of the service line (e.g. ability to lift 40 pounds) as identified by the transport Fit for Duty Protocol
