About The Port Authority

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.

The Engineering Department is currently looking for an Associate Materials Engineer. This position will be located in Jersey City, NJ.


Reporting to the Engineer of Materials, and under the direct supervision of the Chief of Materials Engineering, the Associate Materials Engineer will be responsible for directing others making inspections of materials for use in Port Authority construction projects; observing specific manufacturing processes, and quality control procedures for all construction materials and quality assurance programs, and performing testing on existing structural members

The selected candidate will also sample and inspect products and materials for adherence to prescribed specification; review and originate reports denoting the compliance or non-compliance of materials; observe others performing a variety of physical and/or chemical tests on construction materials and soils in accordance with standard lab methods and procedures; make judgments as to the quality of the delivered materials at construction sites and immediately informs superiors of any variance to specifications; prepare and evaluate experimental mixtures of bituminous and portland cement concrete; prepare written and graphic records of observations and test results; perform evaluation and development of non-routine construction materials.


*Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
*Must have a valid drivers license.


The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications profile:

*A minimum of two years experience in the area of inspection and testing construction materials.
*Demonstrated ability to direct and supervise others.
*Demonstrated ability to implement and administer testing, inspection, and quality assurance programs.
*Demonstrated oral and written communication and presentation skills.
