This position represents the Department of Revenue in direct public dealings by providing one-stop shopping to our customers at the initial point of contact through the highest level of professional service; interprets and explains state tax laws, rules, regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures. In addition, the incumbent approves or denies abatement claims and amended returns with a delegation of up to $5,000.00 and makes recommendations on larger dollar claims. Prepares necessary financial, registration and inquiry forms and appropriate on-line transactions; assists and trains examiners of a lower grade in formal and informal settings and participates in special projects as requested. Incumbents in this series must be proficient in the use of all desktop applications.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing or tax examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.*
II. A Graduate degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License may be required.
Experience in a customer service setting.
Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of Income tax data to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Knowledge of Income tax law, regulations, policies and procedures.
Experience in working abatement claims.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and over the telephone.
Ability to problem solve and engage in multiple tasks.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Ability to work in a team setting on a daily and project basis is preferred.
This position will be filled as a provisional appointment.
