Description and Desired Qualifications
CH2M HILL Project Controls Planner/Scheduler - Cincinnati, Ohio

The challenge? Helping ensure that cutting edge design is delivered in efficient manner for Industrial & Advanced Technology projects. Our Project Controls Planner/Scheduler position will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting, Industrial and Advanced Technology projects around the world. Each day, you will be responsible for directing a project team in the execution of all project controls processes and systems on major projects. Under limited supervision, you will perform the more complex aspects of project control activities, ensuring that all project control activities such as project administration, change management, project estimating, cost management and schedule management are executed in a timely fashion and in accordance with all company standards and contractual requirements. You should be a self motivated, detail oriented professional with a minimum of 7 years planning/scheduling experience in a construction and engineering environment, and have a BS in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related field; or equivalent experience. Preferable candidate would also have some background in Cost Management.

Our Project Controls Planner/Scheduler :
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of project control principles; understand the principles and concepts of cost engineering as it relates to budgeting, monitoring and tracking actual costs, change orders and forecasting; possess superior planning and scheduling experience using the critical path method, and be able to set up basic cost reports required by the project manager
Have hands-on experience and be able to set up basic design and construction schedules and possess the knowledge of calculating physical percent complete and calculating overall percent complete for the project
Understand various contract types, i.e. cost plus, T&M, FFP and provide interpretation of the prime contract requirements
Exercise independent and professional judgment in solving problems and coordinating issues as it relates to cost and schedules' and exercise independent judgment in dealing with clients, subcontractors and team partners in solving cost and scheduling problems
Perform detailed variance analysis of project cost and schedule performance and present the analysis to senior management
Operate as a check and balance with the project management team in determining the financial health of the project
Direct the procurement and accounting systems in support of the job cost tracking system
Have the experience to develop defensive and offensive positions relative to project claims and analysis
Consistently estimate accurate completion time of own assignments and coordinate with project teams
May provide some technical guidance to less experienced planning/scheduling and/or cost engineering staff
Develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with coworkers, supervisors, managers, clients and other in contact with the job
Are responsible for the development of scope, schedule, budget and estimate to complete data for assigned tasks
Lead in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and development of schedules and budget data (including resource loading) for those WBS elements
Analyze unit rates to the extent the estimate to complete unit rates are well understood and defendable to peer review
Assemble and compile schedule and cost data and inputs into the project control database and provide output to the project team
Analyze schedule progress and performance and identifies developing problem areas
Participates in claims analysis and negotiation
Maintain all subsidiary reports such as personnel staffing and release schedules, equipment schedules, etc to facilitate good cost projections (EAC)
Assist in managing and maximizing project margins
Advise management of risks that may affect project profit, costs, schedules and client relations
Support the Project Management team in maintaining timely and effective change management processes, procedures and systems
Take the lead in the development and maintenance of any periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) status reports to keep management and/or owner informed on the project progress. These reports may include labor productivity, schedule status, financial analysis, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves reports on either direct or indirect construction activities that are a part of the work
Prepare CH2M HILL standard earned value-based reports, including schedule updates, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves
Participate in the development of the Project Completion Report including the evaluation of all subcontractors and major vendors
Incorporate field schedules in the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB)
Implement trend and change management programs
May provide PP&C support to multiple business groups
Provides mentoring and career development counseling for junior level project controls staff
On field assignments, assist with quantity tracking, retrieving project data from subcontractors
May provide some technical guidance and oversight (QA/QC) to less experienced project control staff

Basic Qualifications

7+ years planning/scheduling in a construction and engineering environment

BS Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related field; or equivalent experience

Must be proficient in the use of Primavera Project Manager (P6), Microsoft Project, and the Microsoft Offices suite of tools

Must be able to read and interpret design drawings and develop projected final quantities

Must be able to perform quantity survey techniques in developing construction status

Must possess technical and practical application of engineering, procurement and construction functions

Must possess technical and practical application of estimating, pricing and costing

Preferred Qualifications

Willing to relocate to project sites as required by the business group

Prior experience with Cost Management
