Position Description

Associate Vice President for Health Affairs/Strategic Initiatives and Special Advisor to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs.

The University of Louisville invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Health Affairs/Strategic Initiatives (AVPHA/Strategic Initiatives). The University of Louisville's Health Affairs organization is in the midst of the most significant period of change in its history. This change emanates from the reforms in national and local health care legislation, the formation of a single consolidated clinical practice plan, a new hospital partner, increased competition for federally sponsored research, new and expanding compliance and legal obligations and the struggle to provide quality health care to those less advantaged throughout the Commonwealth.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs (EVPHA), the AVPHA/Strategic Initiatives will provide a broad range of strategic advice, counsel and support to the EVPHA. The person filling this position will be responsible for:

-Providing strategic advice and counsel on a broad range of legal, financial, business, policy and regulatory issues
-Monitoring local, state and federal legislation to assess any impact to the University?s Health Affairs organization
-Serving as a liaison to key Health Affairs partners
-Serving as the principal liaison to all external and University legal resources.
Position requirements include the following skills and experiences:
-Served as a practicing attorney for a minimum of 10 years and admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association
-Provided legal, business, regulatory, political and financial advice and counsel to senior level executives
-Proven record of successfully negotiating complex business contracts, partnership agreements, and other similar arrangements
-In depth knowledge of the business, regulatory and business practices of a university health affairs organization or school of medicine
-In depth knowledge of the business, economic, political and regulatory climate nationally and throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky
