Other than regular hours (Mon-Fri, 8:30-5:00)
Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4 PM.
Performs test and maintains proper chemical level in heating systems, steam generators and AC water towers. Carries out scheduled water sampling in all water towers, closed heating systems, chilled water systems, and steam generator stations. Maintains records for water testing, maintains CMMS communication, fills outwork requests and work orders, record keeping or readings and sampling, written and verbal turnovers. Maintains mechanical injection systems, chemical pumps, waters softeners and associated piping to the boiler chemical and operating control. Performs other mechanical tasks as needed by the lead operator and chief engineer.
Requires High School diploma/GED, two years' experience in chemical water treatment and actual boiler operation, a Boiler Operator's License for the City of Providence. Must possess a valid motor vehicle license. Some academic background in chemistry or training in the practical application of chemicals preferred. Must have a thorough knowledge of closed heating systems, steam generator stations, and A/C water towers and a background in mechanical injection systems. PLEASE NOTE: During the first 5 business days, only Brown University union employees will be considered for this position (November 5- November 9, 2012).
Special Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds unassisted, climb lifts and scaffolding up to 100 feet. Must be able to obtain certification for use of a respirator. Must be able to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs for the duration of the work period.
