In the absence of a Clinical Laboratory Services Leader, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Senior provides the technical supervision of all Clinical Laboratory personnel and testing systems. These parameters are defined by Medicare under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (42CFR493.1461 & 1463). The Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Senior will also use his/her expertise to assist patient care providers, to provide bench level training and to mentor new staff. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist Senior is responsible for the successful completion of additional assigned functional duties. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Senior is accountable to ensure timely and accurate results are reported to the appropriate hospital staff and physicians in a courteous and professional manner.

Nature and Scope:
Renown Health Laboratory is a 24-hour/7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages.
The major challenge in this position is to perform quality and timely laboratory tests for a diverse patient population of all ages (infants, toddlers, pre-school, school-age, adolescent, adult, geriatrics) through appropriate organization of workload, completion of quality control procedures, proper specimen identification, and ensuring proper instrument/equipment operational status. Test results must be clearly reported to nursing and/or medical staff through direct communication or result entry by computer.
The incumbent is responsible for training students and mentoring new personnel. Training will be conducted and communicated through acceptable adult learning methods.
The incumbent must consider the age of the patient when performing testing and releasing results. Must be able to communicate with a diverse patient population and their family when performing special procedures. Behavior promoting positive customer service is expected at all times.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Senior reports results in the Laboratory Information System and keeps nursing personnel informed to assist in and expedite patient care. Notifies appropriate nursing personnel when a laboratory informational system or instrument is out of service.
The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain General Supervisor licensure in the State of Nevada based on licensure criteria.
Minimum three years of experience as a nationally certified Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) according to the job posting. Recent general clinical laboratory experience and/or supervisory experience are preferred.
A current State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is preferred and the ability to obtain a State of Nevada General Supervisor license within 7 months is required. Failure to receive General Supervisor licensure will result in demotion to Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
