High profile opportunity with global leader in coated glass technology. This is a new position for innovative Optical Materials Scientist also with leadership responsibility of small group of scientist. As a part of the Development team for optical material in the sputtered films research department, this person will be actively involved in the development of new materials. This effort will work in concert with the product development teams and marketing teams to ensure that new competencies and product attributes are developed in timely manner.

Critical attributes include sense of urgency, flexibility, strong leadership, ability to motivate others, high energy, self starter, and perseverance.

Primary Responsibilities include:
Identifying, developing and implementing new optical materials and materials processes to increase technological capabilities. Assessing and prioritizing attributes for new product developments, and working to enable these attributes per the product roadmaps. Working with the product development and marketing teams to develop, implement and maintain a strategic materials roadmap. Ensuring that materials are compatible with current thin film vacuum deposition assets, high temperature glass processing techniques, and manufacturing profitability. Would be the expert materials knowledge resource of the division. Up to 30% domestic and international travel is required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and traits:

Advanced Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Optics or related subject.

2+ years in leading materials or product development teams.

5+ years of experience in developing materials for optical or tribological applications.

Understanding of thin film processing and materials characterization techniques.

Strong analytical skills coupled with good abilities for presenting and communicating ideas and concepts.

Ability to make decisions and take action under pressure.

Experience with Optilayer or other thin film modeling packages.
