A senior-level professional, the Systems Development Senior Specialist is competent to work on complex projects within the transportation industry and applies an in-depth knowledge of software development concepts, practices and procedures. Requires experience in all phases of software development life cycle using Agile methodologies, and significant experience as a technical lead.
Experience should include integrating multi-platform systems supporting high volume transaction processing across distributed data acquisition points, centralized data aggregation systems and web-based user interfaces.

Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills are required and the candidate must be capable of assimilating new technologies and features into existing solutions as well as developing new solutions in a fast paced environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Software design and development for commercial electronic transportation systems, including interfaces to weigh in motion systems and/or RFID, as well as validating vehicle credentials via external subsystems and validating vehicle credentials for trucks travelling at highway speeds.
Design, develop and maintain multi-tiered solutions which include patron web sites, back office processing, and real time data acquisition systems.
Designs, develops, installs, implements, fine tunes, documents and/or maintains databases, database dictionaries; monitors standards and procedures and integrates systems through database design and administration.
Demonstrated team leadership skills. Provides guidance and assists in training of less experienced staff. Works with users to ensure successful system implementation; may assist in user training.
Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and compiles information into recommendations and analysis
Some travel and on-call support required.

EDUCATION AND TYPICAL YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: A BA / BS degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related field.

Minimum 8-10 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including 4 years developing large, technically complex systems and
Minimum of 5 years technical lead experience

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Java, JMS, JBoss, Linux/UNIX, Oracle, C/C , Struts, Websphere, HTML, EJB, PL/SQL, XML
Experience with Agile methodologies
Experience interfacing with data acquisition systems
Experience with UML tools and analysis and design using formal methodologies and Object Oriented Programming principles.
Development of web-based payment processing systems
A broad understanding of current hardware and software technologies and the proven ability to architect large scale complex systems.
Experience in scripting and using source code control systems.
Demonstrated ability to meet schedules and multi-task.
Application level development on Linux/Unix
Outstanding oral and written communications skills in both technical and client facing situations.

PREFERRED / DESIRED: Knowledge of RF ID systems
Experience working with SCRUM
Experience with vehicle tracking, identification and inspection systems, such as SAFE, PrePass, E-ZPass and/or managed parking solutions
Rational Rose experience ClearCase, ClearQuest, IBM Technical Developer
A background in large scale transaction processing and financial management systems.
Lower level experience with Linux (operating system configuration, installation, kernels, etc).
Understanding of transportation related data acquisition systems such as EZ-Pass RFID and truck weighing solutions
Knowledge of credit card processing and related PCI standards.
Knowledge of network design and network administration.
Experience working in a team environment where team members are geographically dispersed.
