GENERAL SUMMARY

:

The Public Safety Communication Specialist is to be the communication link between Public Safety, all hospital departments, law enforcement and other community agency personnel, hospital leadership, employees, patients, families, and public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

:

·

Receives all incoming requests and communication via radio, phone, or other communication methods for Mercy Public Safety and from Mercy Public Safety Officers.

·

Coordinates responses by obtaining appropriate information pertinent to the request or incident.

·

Mobilizes the appropriate resources for the request providing a timely response.

·

Monitors radios to respond to calls for critical support from Public Safety officers immediately and coordinates the appropriate support.

·

Communicates with requesting personnel or agency to provide updates, referrals, or completion of the request or incident.

·

Monitors rounding and routine schedules of Public Safety Officers for completion of work

·

Maintains the call log of Public Safety activities.

·

Monitors public safety activities on the shift to coordinate a response to meet the priority needs of customers.

·

Monitors Public Safety and community activities via radios, scanners and calls on the shift to coordinate response to meet the priority needs of customers.

·

Creates monthly and annual statistical reports.

·

Maintains and supports Public Safety software

·

Maintains Public Safety databases by entering appropriate information in a timely manner.

·

Monitors community activities, cameras, and facility activities to coordinate and recognize threats and needed response.

Communicates pertinent information to the Public Safety Officers.

·

Observes weather patterns via observer reports and/or radar to facilitate appropriate response by Public Safety Officers, not limited to but including Tornado Alerts, Snow Emergencies, etc.

·

Monitors fire alarm system and coordinates communication with Fire Emergency team including:

public safety, maintenance, operator, safety officer, fire alarm monitoring agency, and the Des Moines Fire Department for fire alarms.

·

Pulls camera, phone, and video recordings to support investigations at the request of the Public Safety Manager, Director of Facilities or their designee.

·

Completes other activities and special projects as assigned.

·

Assists in orienting new Communications Specialists, public safety officers and FAST team members to responsibilities in the Public Safety dispatch center.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

·

High school diploma or equivalent required.

·

Two years Public Safety Communications Specialist, Dispatch, or Customer Service experience required.

·

Specialized or technical training in communications, facilities, and/or security preferred.

·

Computer knowledge and usage required.

·

Excellent critical thinking skills required.

·

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

·

Ability to function in a fast-paced, dynamic changing environment.

·

Knowledge on usage of multiple phones, radios and computers
