Employment Status:Full-time in one school or shared among schools in a specific HSS
Reports to:Principal(s)/Headmaster(s) or SESS Program Director (in certain high schools) with support from OSESS
Description
The Specialist will provide support to the students with disabilities enrolled in the particular HSS in a school or group of schools, and other students placed at risk in these schools. The support services that the Specialist will provide will be determined by the needs of the students and the specifications developed collaboratively by the Principal(s)/Headmaster(s) and OSESS.
General Responsibilities
1.Provide specific support services, appropriate for the students enrolled in a particular strand and other students placed at risk, defined collaboratively by the Principal/Headmaster and OSESS
2.Provide support services to individual students, small groups and class groups, as defined in IEPs or Service Team Action Plans
3.Collaborate in planning and service delivery with Principal(s)/Headmaster(s), HSS Teachers, SESS Coordinators, SESS Program Directors, and other school staff and administrators
4.Provide case management and liaison with other school, district, and community-based providers
5.Participate as members of Service Teams and Evaluation Teams
6.Provide consultation and professional development to colleagues
Services and Qualifications in Specific Strands
Autism
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in ABA, Speech, OT, PT, or teaching students with ASD
Emotional Impairment
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in social work, counseling, or psychology, or as a behavior specialist.
Intellectual Impairment (Mild, Moderate, Severe)
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in ABA, OT, PT, speech/language, or teaching students with Intellectual Impairment
Multiple Disabilities and Physical Impairment
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in ABA, OT, PT, speech/language, or teaching students with multiple disabilities or physical impairment
Sensory Impairment-Hearing
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in American Sign Language and teaching students with hearing impairment
Sensory Impairment-Vision
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in teaching students with vision impairment
Specific Learning Disability
Specific Qualifications: Certification/license and experience in speech/language, specific learning disabilities, or teaching students with learning disabilities
General Qualifications
Required
1.Certification or license as appropriate for the particular services needed in the HSS (see above)
2.Experience delivering these support services to students with disabilities
Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
Preferred:
1.Masters Degree in special education or an appropriately related field
2.Experience in the Boston Public Schools
3.Experience working in urban public schools
