This position is assigned to the Idaho National Guard Joint Staff, Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Program, within the State of Idaho – Military Division. The Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy is an intensive residential alternative high school for “At Risk” 16-18 year old Idaho students. The program is directed and sponsored by the State of Idaho – Military Division/Idaho National Guard. It provides a unique educational opportunity within an intensive military structure and overview. Students participate in daily academic instruction, work and community service, and physical fitness activities. The program is a three phase enterprise consisting of: 1) 2-week challenge phase to determine a cadet’s desire and commitment to participate; 2) 20-week residential academic/military phase, and; 3) a 12-month post residential program consisting of life planning and community re-integration. The program curriculum is modeled on eight core components that define all dimensions of a person’s success relative to personal achievement and social contributions. The components are: Leadership/Followership, Service to Community, Job Skills, Academic Excellence, Responsible Citizenship, Life-Coping Skills, Health and Hygiene, Physical Fitness. The program is staffed by professional teachers, counseling staff, field staff, and residential supervision cadre and managers. The program campus is located in Pierce, Idaho.
