02/Houma Sub-District ADA of Operations
Function of Work:
To perform routine preventive maintenance and repair of small engines and mobile equipment.
Level of Work:
General from Mobile Equipment Shop Foreman or other higher level maintenance or administrative personnel. Close from higher level maintenance personnel when assisting with major overhaul work.
Location of Work:
All agencies, statewide.
Differs from apprentice and helper jobs by the independent performance of routine preventive maintenance and repair of small engines and mobile equipment in a non-trainee capacity.
Differs from higher level Mobile Equipment Mechanics by the lack of independent overhaul responsibility on major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, etc.
Examples of Work:
Makes regular maintenance checks and performs regular preventive maintenance such as: oil changes, lubrication, filter and radiator hose changes, and proper fluid level maintenance to keep warranties in effect.
Assists higher level mechanics in working on a wide variety of mobile equipment or vehicles.
May also be responsible for repair and maintenance of equipment powered by small internal combustion engines such as: lawnmowers, string trimmers, outboard motors, etc. Tasks may include grinding valves, setting tappets and push rods, installing new piston rings, and cleaning parts.
Removes and cleans fuel tanks.
Maintains inventory of tools, instruments, and supplies.
Structured training as required by agency.
