Oversee the Unix/Linux operational domain including software distribution, service delivery, and core product management.

Responsible for Team Development and strong Business Relations with peers in both areas of IT and with customers.

Responsible for working with engineering team to develop and enforce standards for the Unix/Linux environments.

Oversee the Unix/Linux operational project portfolio.

Perform people management activities, including hiring, managing associate performance, conducting pay, performance and career conversations and other aspects related to managing people in a results oriented culture.

Responsible for the Unix/Linux budget and license compliance and will manage all vendor relationships looking for ways to streamline vendor contracts and technology in the organization.

Accountable for the performance of the team; associate engagement; cost, quality and timeliness of solutions and; the overall satisfaction of customers.

Consult and collaborate with IT teams to build strategic, cost-effective solutions.

Provide peers, customers and leadership with a strong focus on operational excellence. Build and maintain strong relationships with peers and customers with a focus on operational excellence.

Maintain a good understanding of Aon's Enterprise IT environment, business applications and service level requirements.

The Unix/Linux Operations Unit Manager has overall management responsibility for the planning, service delivery, and coordination of activities for the Unix and Linux related infrastructure technologies. Candidate will be responsible for leading a team of 8 mid to high level engineers who will be responsible for installing, configuring, administering and supporting Solaris and Unix systems. The largest environment is a complex and highly available Veritas clustered Application infrastructure spanning several DMZ's in multiple data centers.

Ensure that requests for services from the Unix/Linux Operations team are handled quickly, consistently, and with quality.

Ensure 24x7 support for systems related to the role.

Manage a global team, ensuring superior communication, teamwork and synergy between centers.

Forecast and manage team productivity and availability effectively.

Make fiscally responsible decisions, using cost/benefit analysis and other methods to ensure appropriate return on investment and find ways to increase value by reducing run rate.


General Skills:
At least 8 years of technical experience, of which 4 years as a Unix/Linux Administrator, Lead, or Manager preferred.

Has core financial management skills; able to manage a budget effectively.

Able to learn technical concepts quickly and apply them effectively in the workplace.

Able to multi-task and work productively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Adaptable; able to adapt to changing business requirements and react quickly.

Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of supporting Solaris 8, 9 and 10, Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux.

Experience managing Veritas Clustering and Vormetric encryption is highly desirable.

Experience managing Veritas Volume Management and File Systems (VXFS, ZFS, CFS).

Experience managing a distributed enterprise environment with multiple disk arrays with both SAN and NAS connectivity.

Experience managing upgrading and security patching.

Experience managing Unix/Linux security, including participation in security based audits (Sarbanes-Oxley compliance).

Knowledge managing Unix/Linux related monitoring tools, including Wily and Patrol is highly desirable.

Knowledge managing an environment with Tivoli Storage Manager or Symantec Net Backup.

Knowledge managing an environment with DB2, Oracle and JAVA based technologies.

Knowledge of SSO/Identity Management/LDAP experience is a plus.

Familiarity with IT Enterprise architecture.

Experience installing, configuring, performance tuning and troubleshooting Unix/Linux systems is highly desirable.

Able to read and work from technical manuals and other documentation.

Experience and knowledge of current trends.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in an IT field or relating experience.

8-10 years of experience working in an IT field.

3 of more years of Project Management experience.

ITIL/PMP background or certification a plus.

2-5 years managing global teams of 5-10 associates in an enterprise environment.
