Surgical Assistant directly assists the primary surgeon during the operative procedure. As defined by the American College of Surgeons, the Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, homeostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. This role will vary considerably with the surgical operation, specialty area, and type of facility.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Thorough knowledge of and ability to perform the role of the surgical first assist in the operating room. BLS certification and current KY License as Surgical First Assistant.
Preferred Education / Experience
Technical training. Two - three years related experience.
