Brief Description
The Nonpublic CIEP Program Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, implementing and assisting in the coordination of the Central IEP Team process for severely disabled students who require a more restrictive placement. The candidate will serve as the parent contact and facilitator in order to maintain state and federal guidelines pertaining to the IEP process for school age children. The Nonpublic CIEP Program Specialist will assist the CIEP Instructional Specialist to provide written communication to advise school personnel and parents about IEP meetings as well as follow-up letters regarding recommendations. Monitoring critical database information, writing and assisting the CIEP Instructional Specialist with communications with schools, parents, lawyers, teachers and various members of the CIEP team, are requirements of the position. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assist with all aspects of the CIEP meetings including review of student packets, scheduling meetings, notifying parents, and submitting referrals to identified programs;
Make recommendations for severely disabled students who require a change in placement;
Serve as a point of contact to direct inquiries for services for school aged students;
Serve as a point of contact to answer questions pertaining to how to begin the CIEP process;
Serve as a member of the Nonpublic CIEP Specialist Team;
Maintain and oversee all aspects of the identified program and/or related service;
Provide written recommendations and a summary of CIEP meetings;
Oversee the collection and distribution of CIEP meeting data;
Embed CIEP meeting notes and recommendations into MD Online System;
Provide in-services to instructional staff in Non-Public Schools; and
Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Responsible for assisting the CIEP Instructional Specialist with monitoring, implementing, and assisting in the coordination of services for students requiring a more restrictive placement for the Department of Special Education;
Serve as the parent and school contact in order to maintain state and federal guidelines pertaining to the IEP process for school age children;
A thorough knowledge of current special education policy and procedure as well as knowledge of current Prince George's County Public Schools special education programs is critical;
Knowledge of current Nonpublic Special Education facilities located in and around the county is preferred; and
Knowledge of writing an exemplary Individual Education Program and Prior Written Notice is also a critical.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Special Education, training in Special Education Policy and/or Law or a related field and five years of successful teaching experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in this position.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrative I Certification. Both General and Special Education Certification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
