Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a rural 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for a full-time professional counselor for the Warsaw campus. This position is a 12-month professional faculty appointment with an excellent benefits package. Appointment begins January 1, 2012. Responsibilities include academic, career, and personal counseling, including but not limited to academic advising, curriculum assessment and congruence with student's life goals, transfer advising, and financial aid assistance. The professional counselor serves as the ADA Director for the Warsaw campus. This component of the role includes securing and reviewing documentation of disabilities; determining eligibility for academic accommodations based on RCC documentation guidelines and established process; explaining the accommodation process to students; and conferring with faculty regarding specific student learning needs and accommodations. Maintaining confidential records, utilizing educational databases and effective interaction with students, faculty, and staff is integral to the role. Additional responsibilities include teaching Student Development courses (SDV 100 or 108); assisting with new student orientation and college recruitment; and participation in professional organizations, conferences, and training programs annually. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean of Student Development. Reports to the Dean of Student Development.
Required qualifications: Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or related field. Experience counseling in the academic setting, or specific coursework or internship that afforded an equivalent experience. Knowledge of or experience with ADA law and accommodations as demonstrated by training or experience required. Experience with electronic databases and/student information systems required.
Preferred qualifications: Licensed professional counselor (LPC or LMPC), licensed doctoral level psychologist in counseling or clinical psychology, or licensed Master of Social Work (MSW), with current State of Virginia license preferred. Will consider a licensed eligible doctoral psychologist with a degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program; experience counseling in higher education for 6 months or more with preference given to experience in a community college setting; experience with PeopleSoft/SIS.
Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring range is $52,314 - $73,221 for a 12-month appointment. A completed Commonwealth of Virginia employment application, resume, cover letter describing qualifications, and a complete set of unofficial transcripts are required.
