The Physicians Assistant/Nurse Practitioner provides primary and tertiary health and supportive care to Women’s Oncology patients, particularly in the in-patient setting. The incumbent obtains patient history, performs physical examinations, orders diagnostic tests, and evaluates findings to make preliminary diagnosis. Assesses immediate and long-term needs of patient, writes admission, pre- and post-operative orders and administers medical treatments. Assists in the surgical management of patients, performs minor surgical procedures, and assists in discharge planning. Reviews care plan with physicians prior to implementation, and performs other duties relating to providing medical care, teaching and research.

Completion of AMA approved Physician's Assistant Program with current license to practice as Physician's Assistant in Rhode Island, or Bachelor's degree and completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program, preferably with certification or certification eligibility. One to three years experience as Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant preferred; experience in providing services to oncology patients highly desirable. Must have strong theoretical and practical knowledge of techniques and demonstrated analytical ability to assess findings and diagnose illnesses. Excellent interpersonal skills are required as well as a commitment to team care and teaching, and interest in learning and growing on a professional level..
