Security Dispatcher

Position Summary:
The Security Dispatcher serves as the telephone communications link between the calling party and security officers in the field, and accurately obtains, recalls, and relays pertinent information while remaining calm in emergency situations and making timely and accurate decisions. This position requires population specific competencies. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Essential Functions:
The Security Dispatcher responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Receives and transmits information accurately and efficiently via telephone and through Computer Aided Dispatch system input, retrieves information concerning emergency and non-emergency situations, and records information. Routes/dispatches calls as needed.
  • Monitors the status of security officers and their calls; watches the security monitors, and dispatches officers to any incidents that appear suspicious.
  • Manages the lost & found program for the shift and ensures proper documentation for items entering and being returned.
Accountability:
The Security Dispatcher reports to the Security Captain.

Required Physical Demands:
Keyboarding/Dexterity: Frequently; activity exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Light (Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently)
Talking (Must be able to effectively communicate verbally): Yes
Seeing: Yes
Hearing: Yes
Color Acuity (Must be able to distinguish and identify colors): Yes

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 15 college hours or 1 year dispatching experience
  • Certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred
  • 1 year private security experience, preferably in a hospital; 1 year public works experience may be substituted
  • Typing 20 words per minute; proficiency in Microsoft Office
