This internship is for second year PharmD students that are currently enrolled in a professional PharmD program and have an interest in clinical practice, public health, and performance improvement.
Examples of practical experience gained include:
Students will be trained in quality improvement principles, medication therapy management principles, and the process of starting and optimizing clinical pharmacy services. Students will be trained on tracking outcomes and ways of building a business case for clinical pharmacy services. Assisting with research projects, developing guidelines, presentations and articles. Students may have exposure to patient contact as determined by need of clinical teams. Providing technical assistance to health care communities. Developing Pharmacy Based Diabetes Self Management Programs. Act as advocates for advancing the practice of pharmacy. Participate in developing learning opportunities for pharmacists.
Helping to asses gaps in health care provider performance and patient outcome; and recommending improvement methods and processes to providers and practitioners. Assisting in the implementation of the methods and processes.
Partners with team members internal and external to determine and evaluate methods to encourage participation in the quality initiatives. May include research of interventions, data analysis, formal and informal education or presentations.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Must be enrolled in a PharmD program
Completed 2 years of PharmD program
Excellent communication and writing skills
Must hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Positions working on specific contracts may require U.S. Citizenship.
This internship will be a paid internship.
