Assist in design and construction of apparatus/experiments for research and undergraduate teaching labs. Maintain and configure the equipment for these labs. Assist faculty and students with research projects using fundamental scientific knowledge, instrumentation and fabrication. Includes optical microscopy techniques, electron microscopy techniques, other materials analysis, circuit analysis and software development. Work with faculty for laboratory coordination.
Maintain and update equipment and instruments in research and teaching labs. Ensure lab experiments are maintained and up to date and labs are safe working environments per university safety policies. Moving and setting up equipment. Moving office/lab furniture and hanging fixtures. Assist with inventory. Organize supplies and storage.
Supervise lab experiments and train undergraduate students on their proper use and execution in undergraduate teaching labs. Teach students experiments in statistical analysis, Fourier analysis, mechanical sensors, signal filters, signal conditioning, digital data acquisition, fluid flow and heat transfer. Teach students use of software for simulation and analysis of experimental systems. Communicate with teaching assistants regarding lab experiments and provide assistance and guidance to students on lab projects. Grade laboratory reports and help students improve their writing and presentation skills.

Knowledge of mechanical measurement techniques, circuits & analysis. Technical communication skills.
Preferred Education / Experience
Scientific and research experience. Lab instrumentation repair experience. Mechanical engineering undergraduate lab instruction.
