INNOVIM is seeking an Engineer III who will be a member of a team supporting a National Weather Service (NWS) project The Engineer III will work with NWS’ Analysis Branch Innovation Laboratory (ABIL) which supports the NextGen NetLab for the development of Web Services and other capabilities needed for fulfilling NWS obligations to the FAA and NWS clients The ABIL computing lab shares its information with the NWS Meteorological Development Laboratory (MDL) and there are numerous joint efforts that take place between the two divisions within NWS Office of Science and Technology The Engineer III will interact on activities which are transitioning to operations and simulating an operational environment Software Engineer III will be responsible for the maintenance and support for Dell 2860 and 720 servers maintenance of Web Services Software and debugging of connections when FAA and other users have issues Engineer III shall be the liaison working for the Lab Manager to resolve problems with data availability Engineer III shall also assist Lab Manager and Project Manager in developing and risk reduction activities Engineer will be involved in implementing Web Services such as Mapping Feature and Coverage (WMS WFS WCS) services along with more services such as Web Publishing Services (WPS) and Web Grid Document Services (WGDS) Responsibilities will include Perform basic Linux (UNIX) command line administration for VMs and ESXi hosts Expand logical storage volumes Recover data from filesystems (Knoppix) Modify network settings Transfer files between VMs on different hosts (via SCP) Monitor Backup Virtual Machines from the ESXi host Debug of application crashes Troubleshooting network connectivity issues Maintain documentation about the scripts on the NetLab wiki Required Skills and Qualifications Knowledge of NWS formats (eg NetCDF HDF5) and data categories Knowledge of 4dimentional data formatting and dissemination requirements (includes requirements for weather data formats which are continually updated observations and or temporal data and spatial) Knowledge of NWS data centers and products (eg OGC) Knowledge of general netcentric requirements to reach these goals (SOAP WFS) Proficient in IT standards within Industry Proficient in Linux Operating System prior experience in command line admin Excellent verbal and written communication skills Prior experience debugging IT systems Strong skills in programming in Python Two years’ experience with SQL database scripting Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science Engineering or any quantitative Sciences Minimal 46 years’ in Information Technology experience All candidates must be able to pass a National Agency Clearance with Inquires (NACI) screening The work is on site at a federal government location SOAP, SQL, Python
