This position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of MED Institute’s Linux server environment in the data center. This position is also responsible for designing/developing/deploying/documenting and managing future system solutions to meet customer’s needs.

  • System Administration
o Server installation and management (Linux Red Hat Enterprise, OES SUSE Linux, and other various Linux distributions), including updates and patch management;

Proactive system management to provide maximum uptime;

o Develop and deploy load balancing, clustering solutions for application and database servers in conjunction with web application team;
o Monitor industry for new security and IT technologies;
  • Virtualization/Storage
Manage VM ESX and vSphere Clusters;
Manage >20 Terabytes of SAN Storage distributed among multiple locations;

  • Other
Resolve technical system issues;
Develop technical solutions to satisfy business needs;
24 x 7 on call availability;
Providing technical support to the Help Desk, development group, computer operations center and users; and
Best Practices.

Essential Qualifications

BSCS, BSCPT or equivalent 4-year degree or demonstrable experience;
Linux/Unix experience (must include work with: installations / upgrades, clustering, performance monitoring & tuning, backup/recovery, security);
Cisco network infrastructure experience (phone/network switches, routers, firewalls) a plus;
Storage virtualization and SAN experience;
VMware ESX and vSphere experience;
Scripting language experience a plus (Perl, Python, Javascript, ASP, Awk, Grep, etc);
Knowledge of client/server, application development, HTML, SQL and ODBC a plus;
Experience working with Performance Monitoring Software;
LAN / VLAN configuration and troubleshooting a plus;
Extreme attention to detail;
Teachable attitude/willingness to learn;
Strong troubleshooting and complex problem management skills and personal discipline;
Desire to constantly learn and improve upon oneself and the organization;
Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities along with fluctuations in work load;
Ability to work independently or in a team atmosphere;
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
Strong research, creative solution making and problem solving ability; and
Ability to lift 50lbs.
