The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organization. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority effecting American agriculture.

1 vacancy - Weslaco, TX

Plans and conducts independent and cooperative research primarily on the development of an autodisseminator of fungal pathogen spores to control Asian citrus psyllid in residential and organic citrus. Specifically, works to help elucidate the mechanisms underlying transmission of the spores to psyllids and evaluate the potential for horizontal transfer and secondary infection to occur within psyllid aggregations. Assists in the development of visual and olfactory attractants to maximize spore transfer and in modifying formulations to maximize spore survival. Conducts studies in laboratory, greenhouse, and field.

Qualifications and Evaluations

This position requires a Ph.D in Entomology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
