Silicon photonics is a research effort at Intel to revolutionize computing platforms by creating optical communication devices using traditional silicon manufacturing techniques. Bringing optical technology into the computing industry will transform the way computers work and the value that they provide to people.

As a Sr Manufacturing Engineer, you will support new product introductions for Intel's Silicon Photonic modules. You will manage activities to ramp newly developed products into volume production and coordinating efforts between R&D and Operations. Responsibilities would include but not be limited to:

  • Transfer of process and test procedures from the design to production, and maintaining them in a manufacturing state
  • Define measurement methodology and automated data acquisition techniques to characterize high-speed optical transmitters, receivers and transceiver modules at up to 40 Gb/s data rate
  • Perform optical, electrical, and mechanical assessments of photonic solutions with the goal of bringing the technology to a production environment
  • Cross-functional communications with local design teams and off-shore manufacturing teams in a fast-paced and challenging professional environment
  • Coordinate engineering, pre-production, and production build lots
  • Managing process control and yields in manufacturing
  • Define and validate production test requirements and specifications via EVT and DVT
  • Support BOMs and process document control
  • Review designs for manufacturability and test (DFM and DFT)
  • Track performance to plan
  • Up to 20% travel may be required

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through relevant previous job and/or research experience.

Minimum qualifications

  • Must have a BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Optical Science or similar technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with assembly, testing and characterization of high speed photonic modules for optical communications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with integrating hardware and software to develop test capability for volume manufacturing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Product Lifecycle Management and launching optical transmission module products into high volume manufacturing
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with semiconductor lasers, electro-optic modulators and PIN/APD receivers as well as silicon photonics fundamentals and applications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with statistical data analysis and process control for test and process characterization and yield analysis
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with optical communication components and/or systems and familiarity with Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications and standards
Preferred qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in the above skill sets
  • 5+ years of experience with MATLAB, PERL, JMP and Microsoft office components
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Engineer or similar technical role
