Reviews and assists in the creation of indexes, triggers, stored procedures and other database scripts based on performance and access requirements. Supports database user account access requests and database user account policies. Designs, implements and monitors backup and recovery processes, including ensuring appropriate disaster recovery procedures are in place. Develops and utilizes scripts to schedule and run repeatable administration tasks. 25% of the time
Conducts performance management tasks. Includes database refreshes and performance monitoring of the RDBMS systems. Maintains manageability of large databases with partitioning, archival, compression or other techniques to assure performance and recoverability. Manages database disk storage capacity to prevent storage-related issues. Tunes the data bases, as needed; diagnoses and corrects problems in data base performance and integrity. Uses database and network utilities to monitor health and performance of production databases and related applications. 20% of the time
Acts as team member on projects, provides estimates of task deliverables in collaboration with project management; assures that schedules are met; provides status reports to management. Maintains focus on project objectives and mitigates issues concerning functional scope; prioritizes work efforts to maintain project critical path. 15% of the time

For custom-developed applications, assists with the design and reviews of the logical data models, data structures and content of the physical data bases. For 3rd party/vendor systems, learns the data structure to be able to support the system and assist Developers and Analysts in working with the system. Collaborates with other database administrators, developers, business analysts and testers in the application of sound database methodology and design. 10% of the time
Performs database upgrades and assists in system and application upgrades. Performs production support, including support during off shift hours. 10 % of the time

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or computer science or related field or completion of equivalent training.
Ten years of related work experience which includes at least one (5) year experience as a Database Administrator.
Equivalent work experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. (Does not apply to required database administrator experience)
Desirable or Preferred:
Certification in database technology appropriate to position.

Data modeling with tools such as PowerDesigner, Erwin and Oracle Designer 2000;
Basic Windows or Unix server administration relevant to database platforms;

This Senior Oracle Database Administrator position is responsible for ensuring stability and performance of Oracle databases in support of critical applications for Seattle Public Schools. The successful candidate will have a solid background in core database administration, performance management, and DB-related software support and administration. This is a senior level role and will need to work collaboratively with the technology senior management team on projects and infrastructure/architectural planning, troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure high quality services to our students, staff and families.
