Program Overview In the fall of 2011, the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC) will offer (1) internship to provide direct experience in policy and program development in science and technology. This is an ideal opportunity for a student with an interest in the intersection of science and technology, economic development, and state and federal level advocacy. This position is part time, 25-30 hours a week.
Job Description/Role:
Conduct and analyze research, including
Track / analyze federal and state budget activity related to R&D
Track / analyze federal and state legislation and proposed administrative actions
Monitor public and private R&D activity in Illinois. Monitoring activities should include universities, federal laboratories
Assist in the development of monthly publication of ISTC’s e-journal Catalyst
Assist with the general operations of the ISTC, including but not limited to:
Clerical tasks including filing, data entry, contact and schedule management
Provide support, as needed to ISTC President
Serve as liaison to outside vendors
Manage office inventory and equipment
Support the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition ‘brand’ and all related collateral materials, including:
Manage e- communications tools including, ISTC website and social media
Provide research and administrative support to the Illinois Innovation Council program officer
Provide research support for the Illinois Nanotechnology Collaborative
Qualifications :
Bachelors Degree
Knowledge of state and federal agencies, programs, agencies and procedures
Experience with digital and social media
Commitment to technology-based economic development
An ability to interact with senior level executives in public and private organizations.
An interest in science and technology, economic development and public policy.
An ability to work independently, self-manage time.
