DESCRIPTIONBiotechnology Company is seeking an exceptionally talented computer scientist to work with its team of computational biologists in the Bay Area. The successful individual will fill a unique role in developing innovative data analysis and visualization tools and providing research support for the team and our scientific collaborators. RESPONSIBILITIESAs part of the scientific team you will:Analyze data, develop novel methods and produce reports and graphics for a wide variety of projects based on NGS data. Work collaboratively with product development group to specify, design, and implement Web applications that serve as a front-end to RTG's data analysis tools.REQUIREMENTSDemonstrated expertise in scientific data visualization and significant experience (2-3 yrs) with applications applied to sequence analysis workflows.
Requires experience with genetic data analysis and bioinformatics tools and in-depth knowledge of genomic data formats (e.g. VCF, BAM/SAM). Experience with large-scale projects or peta-scale datasets highly preferred. Proven ability to develop both data analysis algorithms and Web-based tools to capture insights from complex genetic datasets.
Essential to have UNIX environment and scripting expertise and ability to program in Java, HTML5 and/or at least one other modern language. Will require sensitivity to end-user needs, reflected in design of user interfaces and application workflows. EXPERIENCEAt least 2 years of experience working with NGS platforms, datasets and bioinformatics tools. Experience developing software applications (including Web-based apps) and experience in data warehouses and genomic databases a plus.
