Primarily responsible for analysis, maintenance, implementation, and performance of SME hosting platforms in local and remote data centers through management of the Systems Administration Team. Work with "remote hands" at remote data centers for hardware modifications and maintenance. Travel, as needed, to remote locations for upgrades, migrations, installations, etc.

Lead Unix Systems administration team that supports Verio’s SME product line.

Closely manage staff and systems resources required to implement and maintain corporate roadmap initiatives.

Direct activities of system administrators in ensuring strategic business objectives are translated to prioritized tactical implementations supporting “on time” releases.

Overall ownership and accountability for, deployment and maintainability of production and pre-release systems infrastructure including servers, storage, application platforms, and core services. A heavy emphasis is placed on meeting established SLAs.

Create or expand existing initiatives focused on automation and repeatability of frequent, manual efforts including bare-metal provisioning, application configuration, and code deployments

Provide leadership role in project planning, design and implementation of new services and applications.

Develop standard policies and procedures to deliver uptime and quality of service goals and measure service against internal and external service level agreements.

Manage relationships with 3rd party vendor partners.

Work closely on cross-functional efforts with other infrastructure teams as well as development, DBA, and system architectures to establish operational discipline within the product development process.

Develop and nurture leadership capabilities at manager level and participate in corporate organizational development initiatives.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Must have a minimum of 5 years direct personnel management/supervisory responsibility. This includes employee scheduling, counseling, goal setting, mentoring, delegating and project management.

College Degree in Management and/or Computer related field

Experience directing and prioritizing the work of technical associates.

UNIX and LINUX System Management.

Infrastructure Maintenance and Deployment Automation

In-depth knowledge and experience with fast paced, 24x7, dynamic environments using Linux, FreeBSD, Perl, PHP, Oracle DB and Apache.

Experience understanding complex architectural infrastructure with an emphasis on FreeBSD and RedHat Linux systems.

Experience managing and directing a highly technical administration team while providing opportunity and growth.

The ability to lead a team through tactical and strategic planning, policy creation, implementation, incident and problem management.

Familiatrity with RedHat, FreeBSD, Apache, Dell, HP and Intel services and hardware.

Experience with data center management, information lifecycle management, provisioning, service oriented architecture, automation, hierarichal monitoring and escalation procedures.

Technical proficiency in the following areas are strongly desired: DNS, PXE, NFS, , RedHat, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Database, Nagios, DHCP, OSI layers 4-7, Solaris, FTP, SMTP, iSCSI, FCP, Apache, Shell, Perl.
