Scope of Position: The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall planning, organization, direction and evaluation of clinical operations and clinical practice oversight at the Ross Heart Hospital´s Electrophysiology Labs, in accordance with the OSU Medical Center mission, vision and values. Primarily responsible for clinical standards of care and practice, education/competencies, accreditation, staff evaluations and schedules.
Summary: The Nurse Manager is responsible for managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of nursing and support staff for the designated area(s). Ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments/areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services is essential. The nurse manager works closely with nursing leadership, staff, and medical staff to facilitate effective care planning and delivery. The nurse manager moves multiple resources towards a common goal and well-defined results.
-Develops realistic short, mid and long-term goals with plans to facilitate/guide goal achievement that are consistent with the mission, vision and values of OSU Medical Center. Includes staff in goal development, planning and evaluation whenever appropriate. Revises plans based upon evaluation of progress toward goals. Reports goal activities, progress and outcomes.
-Demonstrates sound financial stewardship through the development and management of well-defined budget plan; monitors plan to assure appropriate resources utilization and effectiveness.
-Demonstrates exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, coaching skills, verbal and written competence. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, staff, physicians, peers and other Medical Center contacts. Works in synergy with departments in direct or indirect support to patient care. Demonstrates effective problem solving, negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
-Serves as a role model and mentor; motivates and inspires staff. Maintains current knowledge of heart care techniques and practices by participating in continuing education opportunities and professional organizations.
-Participates in and assumes leadership role in committees, task forces and special projects
-Manages unit operations
-Manages staffing to assure compliance with staffing effectiveness and productivity standards.
-Manages resources to assure effective utilization of time, people, materials and financial resources.
-Interviews and selects staff according to established standards and competencies.
-Assures staff competency including completion of orientation, mandatory educational and health requirements and periodic performance reviews.
-Identifies and addresses staff performance issues through counseling, action plan and/or discipline as appropriate.
-Provides ongoing staff development and education
-Assures exemplary customer service through adherence to customer service standards. Anticipates needs of internal and external customers. Assumes responsibility in resolving customer problems.
-Manages the performance improvement process
-Contributes to performance improvement within the Medical Center, the service areas and individual unit.
-Demonstrates thorough knowledge of practice standards and associated measures and expected results.
-Identifies opportunities to improve patient care and organizational processes. Assumes leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to undesirable outcomes
-Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
-Masters in Nursing or related field is desirable.
-Current Ohio RN license.
-Knowledge of complex patient care required.
-Prior demonstration of leadership and management skills.
