ERMI of UPMC Emergency Medicine is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to help support the ERMI HAPPI Occupational Medicine Department for its UPMC Passavant Cranberry location. This position is Monday thru Friday daylight office hours. Assists providers in the examination and treatment of patients following established standards and practices, as directed by the physician leader.


-Greet patients in waiting area, assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to discharge counter.
-Obtain patient complaint, measure vital signs, and record information on chart.
-Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
-Position instruments and equipment and hand to physician as directed. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use.
-Perform wound irrigations, dress/bandage wounds and incisions, apply splints, start and/or monitor IV, draw blood, and assist physician with any procedure.
-Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, cardiac monitor, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment.
-Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood, and collect, label, and process specimens for send-out.
-Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory, specimen collection.
-Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings.
-Assist radiology technician with x-ray set-up.
-Complete medical record to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
-Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
-Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
-Perform quality checks on medical equipment.
-Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary.

-Assist with routine housekeeping chores throughout the day includes laundry, turnover patient rooms, etc.
* collect urine drug screens and perform breath alcohol tests according to DOT procedures.

* Communicate case management information to client companies and designated agents.

* Communicate examination and ascreening results to appropriate clients as directed.

* Schedule referral and diagnostic testing for patients.

* Register and discharge patients.

* communicate with staff and clients to develop and administer client specific protocols.

* Administer random drug screening program.

Basic Qualifications

-High school diploma is required.
-Successful completion of Medical Assistant program preferred or equivalent hospital program or minimum of one year of direct patient care experience.
-Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.


-Basic Life Support OR Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
-Act 73 FBI
-Act 34 Criminal Clearance
-Act 33 Child Clearance
-Certified Breath Alcohol Technician, Certified in DOT collection procedures for urine drug screens.
