Responsibilities

Component Engineering Job Responsibilities

This position requires that the employee interface with Development Engineering Teams in Lexington and Cebu, Philippines, Lexmark China Component Engineering (CE) Team and Tooling/Component Suppliers on product design for manufacturability, cost and quality; plastic injection molding processes, and plastic mold design.

Work with the Development Engineering (DE) community advising them of the general guidelines for manufacturing plastic parts in Asia.

Requires some knowledge/experience of having worked with Asian manufacturers.

Define with DE process control for parts.

Provide cost estimate on plastic parts and tooling for budgeting of product and tooling cost.

Review and approve part design (review part 2D print with DE and QE).

Understanding of datum’s (Functional location points of a part) pertaining to prints

Review and approve tool design

Working knowledge of mold flow simulation and it relationship to good tool design.

Working knowledge of how plastics are processed to provide defect free parts to specifications

Periodic travel to Asia (primarily China, Japan and Korea) to work with Supplier and China CE Team

Part and tool DFM reviews with DE

Implement ECs

Coordinate tool and part approval for each part number in a BOM.

Requires good project management skills as the employee may have to oversee the total release, building and approval of tooling and parts for a product.

Ambition and desire to step into this demanding position and grow to become an excellent CE program manager

Technical Skills Required

Prefer someone with a minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics Technology

3+ year of experience as a tool and/or plastics process engineer

Working knowledge of Mold Flow Analysis
