Work Location:
UNM Main Campus (Abq)

Position Summary:
The University of New Mexico (UNM) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean for both the Honors and University Colleges (H&UC). We seek a visionary leader with a strong record of accomplishments, suited to guide undergraduate education, research, and outreach at a flagship university with an undergraduate student population unlike that of any other flagship school to start July 1, 2013 . UNM is a Carnegie doctoral/research-extensive university and a federally designated, Hispanic-serving institution. It is the only flagship university in the nation with a minority-majority undergraduate student population and has more Pell-eligible students as a proportion of its student body than any other flagship school. The Dean, who reports to the Provost, is responsible for administration of all programs and budgets of the UNM Honors Colleges and University Colleges. These Colleges serve: 1) high achieving undergraduates at UNM and; 2) first year students who often arrive on our campus under-prepared to succeed at a flagship university. The Dean of the H&UC will take over leadership of the two colleges that together serve nearly 10,000 students at an exciting time of change at UNM. Founded in 1959, UNM's Honors Program is one of the oldest in the nation. For more than 50 years, the Program has been providing challenging opportunities for intensive interdisciplinary and cross-cultural liberal education to highly motivated, talented and creative undergraduates. The excellent instruction and individual attention of the program have created the benefits of a first-rate, small liberal arts college atmosphere within a flagship research university setting. UNM's Honors Program has long been at the forefront of Honors education and has served as a model for many other successful programs across the nation. Building on the strong foundation of this long-standing program, UNM inaugurated a new Honors College this year with the intent of dramatically increasing the profile of and investment in Honors education. For more information on the Honors College click on this link: Honors College Planning Committee Report University College (UC) serves more than 8,500 students from the time they enter UNM to the time they make a transition to the College of their major. It is a leader in a variety of student success initiatives for first year students. UNM is currently engaged in Foundations of Excellence, an externally guided self-study of the first year experience, and is poised to double the number of Freshman Learning Communities offered by UC, which will make it possible for us to offer this educational opportunity to a majority of UNM's first year students. University College is also the home of the Bachelor of University Studies (BUS) program, which is being reformed to allow UC to play a greater role in offering innovative interdisciplinary and integrative undergraduate degree programs. All nominations should be sent via the following link: H&UC Nomination Form The University of New Mexico (UNM) provides a diversified package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
