This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.


Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve. Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position is to manage the administrative processes of the organization and to serve as a liaison with the manpower/personnel officers and trains Reservists in all tasks of this position. The incumbent will:

--Manage the organization's records management program; may serve as the Functional Area Records Manager (FARM)

--Review and analyze control procedures and handling methods within the organzation

--Monitor and direct the control of incoming/outgoing correspondence

--Prepare a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports and other documents integrating the appropriate software to produce accurate final products

--Manage, prepare and maintain documentation concerning the administrative oders program and prepares orders for a variety of actions

--Serve as project manager for administrative actions involving tours of duty to include training requirements, logistical support, billeting and airlift coordination

--Conduct staff assistance visits to subordinate offices to review administrative processes including files, publications and forms management

You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. Typically we would find this experience in work within the administrative/clerical field. (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. (3) Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (4) Work uncommon tour of duty. (5) This is a drug testing position; incumbent may be subject to random drug testing. (6) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and/or a security clearance.

The assessment questionnaire is designed to measure your ability in the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): (1) Knowledge of office administrative procedures and processes regarding documentation and requirements for personnel actions and orders preparation procedures and regulations (2) Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports (3) Skill in integrating a variety of types of automated software programs (4) Skill in assessing personnel resource requirements (5) Knowledge of publications, records and files managment

Individuals on active duty may apply 120 days before separation date and should indicate in their application their military separation date. Individuals with more than 120 days before separation date must submit with their application a letter, signed by their commanding officer, stating the individual will be released from active duty (PALACE CHASE) if they obtain an ART position. Reservists who are mobilized may submit a copy of their mobilization orders or a statement in their application stating they are available within 120 days.

Individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. ICTAP eligibles achieving a score of 80 or higher, excluding veteran preference points, will be considered well qualified. Federal civilian employees seeking ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.704. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of the most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of the most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location.
