Senior Director, Executive Communications ASPCA -

Job Summary:
The Senior Director of Executive Communications will serve as primary writer for the ASPCA’s executive team and within Media & Communications. The position will draft and edit internal and external communications for senior executives, help oversee overall written communications output for M+C team, and help oversee internal communications for the organization.
Job Responsibilities: Chief responsibility is communications writing, including:
Work closely with leadership team to develop and implement external communications strategy, including crisis communications, and help develop blog program for experts.
Work closely with senior members of the Media & Communications team to develop story concepts (developing and pitching ideas, and working with media on stories)
Draft and edit newspaper, online and blog columns
Draft and edit Op Eds and Letters to the Editor
Draft and edit speeches, public remarks and talking points for senior executives
Oversee speaking opportunities and speaker’s bureau for executives
Oversee and manage internal communications staff including intranet.
Oversee, along with M+C and HR, as appropriate, internal communications for the CEO and senior executives.
Edit and oversee press releases, as necessary
Edit, copy-edit ASPCA’s written communications, as necessary
Oversee ASPCA’s press kit and organizational press materials
Education:
Minimum of a B.A. or B.S.
Experience:
Five-10 years experience writing for publications AND five-10 years experience conceiving, drafting, writing and editing communications including executive speeches, Op/Eds, press releases, and internal memos for senior executives within corporate or non-profit sector
An accomplished writer with extensive experience writing for accredited media outlets
Experienced researcher and news writer
Published writing samples required
Knowledge Requirements:
Strong understanding of news and media business
Ability to conduct basic research online and with other resources
Ability to follow and report on animal welfare trends and current events reported in the media
Ability to maintain good working relationship with the public, employees, and department staff
General understanding of animal welfare and ASPCA’s mission
Knowledge of and experience with IBM-compatible computers, word processing software, and other office equipment
Working knowledge of MS Office Suites, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, if required
Skills Requirements:
Strong verbal and written communications skills a must
Well organized and ability to prioritize various tasks
Ability to perform job in professional manor and maintain confidentiality
Strong inter-personal communications skills
Ability to work rapidly and meet deadlines under pressure
Proficiency in word processing and database computer programs, as above
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as projects require
Additional Information:
Must be a legal resident of the United States and be able to provide proof of authorization to work in the United States.
Must be able to travel, if necessary
