Performs and demonstrates proficiency in a variety of routine to moderately complex Ultrasound procedures at a technical level for diagnostic and pre-operative purposes.
Examinations performed include but are not limited to OB/GYN, Gallbladder, Abdominal, Vascular studies, Baby hips and small parts, intracranial studies. Required to perform prostate and cervical seed implantation in conjunction with Radiation Oncology. Responsible for knowing sufficient anatomy and physiology to determine whether or not the structure required is visualized and whether or not the study is of diagnostic quality.
Responsible for determining if additional examinations or scans might be necessary and required by the Radiologist to fully evaluate the patient’s illness or injury. Responsible for operating the Ultrasound unit in such a manner as to obtain optimum visualization of the organs requested.
Registered with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
Certification in AHA CPR for Healthcare Providers must be maintained and kept current
Completion of an accredited Ultrasound training program. Previous Ultrasound experience desired with competency in OB/GYN and abdominal exams.
Continual updating of knowledge and skills is required to keep current with changing concepts and procedures in the Ultrasound field. Remaining current in the Ultrasound field and allied Radiologic Sciences in respect to reasonable readings of periodicals and articles as published in various journals, which will serve to continually broaden his/her knowledge of the field.
Must have excellent communication, people skills, and ability to have empathy. Must be flexible and self-motivated. Must be professional in demeanor and appearance. Must have a willingness to learn, critical thinking skills, and pay attention to detail. Must have knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures.
