Seeking instructors to teach at sea aboard US NAVY ships through the Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE).
The requirements are as follows:
The NC PACE program is offered by Central Texas College, under contract to the Navy, aboard deployed US Navy ships. Navy Pacific deployments include areas in the Western Pacific, Indian Oceans, and Persian Gulf.
- Masters Degree with 18 graduate credits in Sociology, Math, Psychology, or Philosophy.
- Must have a US Passport
- Able to pass a physical
- Able to pass a government background check
All instructors are classified as part-time adjunct faculty. Teaching assignments are based on 6- to 8-week terms for college-level courses. The Navy must order a minimum of two college-level courses per term, and faculty assignments are limited to a maximum of five courses per term. In some instances a specific ship will order follow-on terms in the same discipline. Therefore, teaching assignments can run from two to six months.
Teaching assignments are contingent upon the needs of the U.S. Navy. Central Texas College cannot guarantee employment beyond a single term. Also, once an instructor completes an assignment, there may be gaps in time until the Navy orders follow-on courses and another assignment can be made.
Instructor compensation is on a per-course basis. College-level academic courses and developmental courses pay $2,000.00 per 3-credit course. There are no medical or insurance benefits under this program. However, we reimburse up to $500 for the physical that needs to be completed prior to hire. Instructors do participate in a retirement plan: the instructor contributes 3.75 percent, and the college contributes a matching 3.75 percent.
U.S. Navy Pacific ships are operational in Hawaii, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, the Persian Gulf, and other areas of the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. An instructor's point of embarkation can be at any one of these locations. Travel by air is arranged by Central Texas College. The college reimburses expenses specific to this travel.
When first-time instructors receive an assignment, they will be given orientation and training in San Diego, California before they depart for their assigned point of embarkation. Expenses for the orientation and training are reimbursed by the college. Travel by air is arranged by Central Texas College.
