Successful teaching and/or practice teaching endorsement

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator

JOB GOAL: To organize and conduct a learning situation which will enable students to acquire the development of knowledge of basic science concepts and skills; development of a performance of basic science activities through student active participation; and development of an interest in the field of science as it pertains to their future lives.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine month year or as established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of administrative guidelines. Evaluated by building administrator.

NOTE: This is a generalized job description. Specific science teaching assignments (life science, earth science, physical science, applied science, natural science, biology, physics, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, etc.) may vary somewhat in essential functions and physical requirements.



* Implements Board policy regarding education philosophy/curriculum under the direction of the administration through planning, organizing, managing, interacting with students; establishing rapport with students, staff, parents and community, and continuing professional development


* Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with science curriculum guidelines

* Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent for science courses assigned

* Plans, prepares and implements laboratory experiences for students

* Plans, prepares and carries out physical demonstrations, using various supplies and equipment

* Teaches and observes safety precautions at all times during lab experiences

* Follows proper precautions in the storage and handling of hazardous chemicals and other supplies

* Takes inventory of supplies annually

* Submits annual budget for equipment and supplies

* Directs and supervises learning activities

* Implements the disciplinary procedures of the district

* Supervises behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well being of the students and staff

* Keeps accurate records of attendance, absences and tardies

* Uses an appropriate variety of instructional approaches

* Makes good use of audio-visual materials, aids, and technology

* Communicates a positive support of the students in their educational development

* Recognizes the exemplary influence of the educator over the student

* Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation

* Supervises hallways, cafeteria, study halls and detention on a scheduled basis


* Student behavior does not detract from the effective learning climate in the classroom

* Teacher exhibits patience, openness, and concern in dealing with students

* Rapport within and outside the classroom evidences mutual respect between the students and teacher

* Teacher exhibits tact and self-control in dealing with parents

* Teacher accepts suggestions from administrators without resentment


* Periodically issues communication forms and grade reports

* Suggests positive recommendations for the continuing review and development of curriculum

* Remains current with professional training and shows evidence of regular professional growth

* Actively participates at scheduled staff meetings and serves on educational committees

* Assumes responsibility periodically for conferences with parents

* Recognizes the extra curriculum program as integral to the educational development of the child

* Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator
