What we need:
The Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for providing Tier 2 server and storage management services for infrastructure located within the Merkle datacenters. Merkle has 1,400 Servers, consisting of Red Hat Linux and Windows 2003/2008, in both enterprise class physical servers and virtualized environments. You must possess a strong dedication to quality customer service, excellent follow through, attention to detail, and a drive to excel as an individual and team.
What you'll do:
Provide Tier 2 server and storage incident management services for a Enterprise Hosting Operations organization in a 24/7 environment. In this role, the candidate will be supporting the backend server infrastructure for Merkle end customers.
Manage, support and protect multiple petabytes of data supporting large-scale data analysis solutions.
Follow the Problem Management process to investigate and document root cause analysis for incidents that result in a service disruption.
Documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for regular activities and provide input to automation initiatives.
Provide escalation support for the Tier 2 organization during business hours and in an on-call rotation.
Planning, coordinating and performing Change Management activities around hardware, software, patching and application modifications, while meeting customer’s SLA and impact expectations.
Address system events for servers, storage and networks with the understanding of complex, multi-tiered environments to minimize downtime and prevent future or widespread occurrences.
Ensure all equipment is properly maintained; Work closely with Tier 4 partners to ensure Merkle’s Enterprise systems are kept up to the manufactures best practices.
Assist with recurring “Server Maintenance” process.
What you need to do it:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
Five or more years of experience in supporting servers/storage in a production, enterprise environment:
Red Hat LINUX
Windows 2003 and 20008 in stand alone and clustered environments (not primary focus)
HP and Dell Enterprise Server hardware experience
Virtualized environment experience, including VMWare and VDI.
Storage platform experience, including SAN, NAS iSCSI and DAS.
WebServer technology, including Apache, JBoss and Drupal.
Industry certifications relevant to the specific field of technology.
Ability to identify areas in need of improvement and the drive to put a solution in place which addresses these needs.
Make decisions and judgments based on standard procedures. Consistently follow change control procedures.
Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize several projects/tasks.
Demonstrate the ability to determine when to escalate issues based on SLA or severity level.
Demonstrate understanding of enterprise data center concepts such as Windows, Linux, networking, server administration and security concepts
Demonstrate the ability to learn new skills techniques and responsibilities.
Must be reliable related to schedule and recurring tasks.
ITIL experience and certification highly desired
