Senior Competitive Media Relations Manager
This position is part of Intel's Competitive PR team, a Corporate Communications function located within the company's Global Communications Group. This influential and challenging role will provide public relations counsel on competitive issues including messaging and outreach around Intel's growth strategies as well as gathering competitive intelligence, working with media, developing short and long range PR plans, and being a go-to person for key competitive events and strategies. Significant direct media outreach involved, conducting and coordinating proactive and reactive media relations as it relates to multiple industry challenges and challengers. The successful candidate will work both internally and externally with key stakeholders as well as with business, trade press, online influencers and analysts who cover Intel and its competitors. Proven experience and strong relationships with top tier media are essential for the role. Creativity, innovative thinking, outstanding problem solving skills, strong story creation abilities and a strategic focus are essential. Technical background and/or experience working with technical trades desirable.
Responsibilities and skills required include:
Maintaining and nurturing personal relationships with key members of the media -- tech and trade and business --in an effort to both influence and manage negative and positive press as it relates to Intel and its competitors
Creating and managing high touch competitive media relations plans in support of Global Communications Group objectives
Assessing and responding to competitive PR threats in a timely matter, both in outbound communications and internal stakeholder alignment
Creating and executing on competitive PR plans in advance and onsite at major industry events as required
Tightly coordinating with Product PR teams, Investor Relations, and Analyst Relations to ensure competitive elements are embedded in all outbound activities
Managing and fostering a competitive dialog with key internal and external stakeholders to create favorable conditions for Intel product and corporate announcements
High levels of comfort working in both large diverse teams and individually in support of strategic competitive communications
Being a leader on proactive efforts to generate and strategically place Intel-focused news stories in major media outlets
Practicing knowledge and use of social media tools in a cohesive, coordinated fashion and demonstrated ability to amplify PR plans using social
Ability to effectively counsel senior executives and others in the company appropriately
Serving as a key spokesperson for the company on competitive issues
Working closely with, educating and learning from other GCG media relations managers around the world and within the US to ensure consistent messaging, positioning and actions
Qualified applicants would have at least 10+ years of direct journalism and or media relations experience combined with established technical skills, preferably in corporate media relations, and social media experience. A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in journalism, English, public relations communications studies or related fields. The applicant should possess existing high-tech media relationships and excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills. Proven ability to influence internal constituents is also a must as is a background successfully working with senior executives.
The successful applicant will often need to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-focused, and often interrupt-driven environment. Working as a self-starter, a curiosity to both learn and teach, strong organization skills and attention to detail are essential attributes for applicants, as is creativity and a tendency to 'think outside the box.'
