Responsible for designing and analyzing thermal solutions for USG processes including calcining, expanding, drying, heating, and co-generation systems. Conduct studies to test problematic, new, and modified designs. Provide and direct the preparation of detailed design, design modeling tools and data analysis. Duties may include troubleshooting, commissioning, field assistance, research, evaluation, development, and application of new processes and methods.
  • Safely lead and execute all work activities.
  • Be a knowledgeable and highly motivated individual, who will be regarded as a technical leader and champion for the thermal system development activities. Beside strong technical skills, the candidate must exhibit good teamwork and communication skills that allow efficient interactions between internal customers and technology team peers, as well as cross-functional associates.
  • Exercise leadership in achieving technical objectives and meeting project deliverables. Identifies and champions design changes, suggests processes that will improve quality, reliability, functionality and return on investment.
  • Perform equipment and supplier assessments and analysis as well as interface with supplier community. Set standards and achieve cost and efficiency targets through proper design choices, component and/or supplier selection. Collaborates across all engineering disciplines and with cross-functional partners to ensure solutions are being implemented to meet business needs and goals.

  • Position Requirements
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field with prior experience and understanding in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and proven practical ability to apply thermal solutions to meet business and project goals. Firm working knowledge in areas such as mechanical design, power design, controls design, and component characteristics, as they relate to thermal design.
    • Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), and presentation skills. Practical understanding of project management skills and knowledge of regulatory and safety compliance programs.
    • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a peer and cross-functional teams. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to influence others to achieve results. A high level of organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and prioritize task.
    • Frequent travel required. Position midpoint may be adjusted based upon the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities.
