Summary
Consistent with the Christian mission and Hope for Life Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Membership Director, the Membership Coordinator will assume all duties necessary to promote, organize, and administer member service, including training and supervising Member Services staff; as well as effectively utilizing all available resources to welcome, engage and connect members to YMCA programs and services to achieve a high level of member satisfaction.

Required Skills
This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and community leaders. S/he must be highly organized, possess strong supervisory and conflict-resolution skills. S/he must be self-directed with excellent computer skills and strong written and oral communication skills. He/she must demonstrate a proven ability to multitask and handle large numbers of people in a service capacity while effectively supporting and communicating the YMCA character values and mission. S/he must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some late evenings and weekends.

Education / Experience Required: •

Minimum 18 years of age •

High school diploma or equivalent required •

YMCA experience in membership and previous customer service experience is preferred

Certifications Required: •

Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN application for employment, new hire packet, Praesidium Child Abuse Detection / Prevention training and BBP training •

Before start of first shift: CEO part 1; First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Emergency Oxygen •

Within 30 days of hire: Unity training

Responsibilities •
Model YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility; model the “New Way to Work”. •

Supervise all aspects of Welcome Center operation, member service, and membership staff, including assisting in hiring, on-site training, coaching and any disciplinary action to ensure a high level of member satisfaction. •

Work closely with Membership Director to understand, communicate clearly and enforce all YMCA policies relating to member services. •

Model expected staff behavior by working Membership / welcome center shifts and working directly with members. •

Constantly greet and develop relationships with members and program participants throughout the facility; develop methods to ensure relationship building among members. •

Maintain and ensure a safe environment; address complaints/concerns immediately; perform Manager on Duty roles and notify supervisor of any member concerns, emergencies, or complaints. •

Assist with development and implementation of annual membership sales/retention plan and other direct marketing promotions within the Center and the community. •

Remain knowledgeable in all programs, class schedules, and membership information and ensure adequate supplies of information are available. •

Possess an active understanding of Wellness and be able to coach our “Health Seeker” members; ensure membership services staff are trained to coach our “Health Seeker” members and are knowledgeable of Wellness programs. •

Work with Corporate Membership office to develop leads for corporate memberships. •

Assist with development, implementation and management of budgets and all revenue projections within the department. •

Maintain adequate records to evaluate, control, and measure the effectiveness of assigned areas. •

Serve on the Membership Cabinet within the Association as deemed appropriate by supervisor. •

Participate in, and solicit others for necessary Center financial development efforts that include the We Build People Campaign and other special projects. •

Oversee the center’s Open Doors scholarship program.
