Contract position with the Sheriff - up to 40 hours per week.
Provides security for the court hearing rooms and County Office Buildings.
A sworn member of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office is assigned to provide in court hearing rooms, main courthouse complex, x-ray machine, metal detector, domestic violence hearings, child support conferences and hearings, and monitor video surveillance cameras.
Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KASs:
Provides court security, attends all court hearings, and performs any court related duties.
Provides personal protection for judges, domestic masters, and juries.
Provides escorts to vehicles after normal business hours upon request.
Assists advocates, State's Attorney's Office, and Sheriff's Office when not in court.
Completes a search of the courtroom prior to court commencing, during court recesses, and at the conclusion of the court docket.
Operates the metal detector, x-ray machine, and monitors video surveillance cameras.
Observes spectators, witnesses, victims, and defendants to prevent or quell any disturbances which may occur.
Tracks statistical information while serving in court.
Takes charge of defendants ordered to pay court costs or parole and probation.
Maintains control of any prisoners in their custody, if needed.
Transports prisoners to and from the court.
Carries out orders and directives given by the Judge or domestic master.
Completes court paperwork and serves process when necessary.

- Proficient in the use of firearms.
A background investigation and Sheriff's Office testing may be required.
Must qualify with Departmental issued handgun and shotgun.
Operation of County owned vehicle.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended period of time.
Must be able to control prisoners or public as needed.
Must be able to work evenings as required.
May be required to work when the County is closed.
