English Language Proficiency required. DUTIES:
A vacancy exists for one full-time (1.0) Nurse
Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Podiatry Clinic, Surgical Specialty Care
Service Line (SSCSL), at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. The
incumbent will work closely with the Podiatrist and Health Technicians.
Assessment/evaluation of patients, history and physicals, continuity of care
for surgical specialty patients, recording all necessary documentation,
assisting in the assessments of outpatient consults as well as seeing patients
needing “follow-up” will be the responsibilities of the incumbent.
Specialty clinics may be set up so that the incumbent follows a panel of
patients providing continuity of care from preoperative assessment to discharge
from that specialty. The incumbent will be directly responsible to the
Chief of Podiatry and the Director, SSCSL.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Citizen of the United States.
  • Master's degree from an NLN/CCNE accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [ The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected .]
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a Nurse Practitioner will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.

A. A minimum of two years independent practice as a Nurse Practitioner is preferred, but not required.

B. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, families, and/or significant others, as well as a health care assessment team, other professional staff and support personnel.

C. Demonstrated initiative, self-direction and adherence to work obligation, which includes professional and clinical integrity.

D. Demonstrate recognized clinical competence, ability to exercise good judgment and effective practice during emergency situations.

E. Demonstrated qualities of leadership.
