Geophysicist for the Elk Hills business unit

based in Bakersfield, California. Located in the southern portion of the San Joaquin Valley, the Elk Hills business unit comprises the Elk Hills Oil Field, one of the largest oil and natural gas fields in the United States, and adjacent properties, making it a key factor in Oxy’s position in California as the largest natural gas producer and largest oil and gas producer on a gross operated basis.

Oxy is seeking a motivated and talented Geophysicist. This person will be a contributing member of a multidiscipline organization. Our geophysicists work with geologists, reservoir engineers and landmen to develop new drilling opportunities and develop a strategic exploitation and business plan to capture these opportunities and add value.

Essential Functions:
Perform integrated structural and stratigraphic interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic surveys for input to 3D reservoir modeling, including well-to-seismic ties, fault and horizon interpretation and mapping, velocity modeling/depth conversion, seismic attribute extraction and analysis.

Support fast-paced drilling operations, including continued integration of new drilling information and identification of new/updated drilling locations.

Support construction of seismically-constrained geologic reservoir and simulation models.

Work with geologists, reservoir engineers, and landmen to identify and develop new exploration, out-step, and development drilling opportunities, and develop a strategic business plan to capture these opportunities and add value.

Recommend and oversee seismic acquisition and/or processing activities, including new data, existing data, and/or wellbore geophysical data.

Actively participate in reservoir surveillance activities and support resulting well actions.

Mentor less experienced geoscientists and team members.

Support reserves estimation and documentation process.

Qualifications

Skills

Ability to integrate 2D and 3D seismic interpretation with geologic, petrophysical, and field data.

Advanced skills in 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, velocity/depth modeling, inversion and attribute analysis at the reservoir scale.

Proficiency with seismic interpretation software (Landmark and Hampson-Russell preferred).

Ability to evaluate technical risks relating to trap, reservoir, charge and seal, and combine them with economic and engineering data to develop a comprehensive business picture for decision making.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

A self-starter with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Excellent English language skills to communicate information and evaluations in a clear and concise manner both orally and in written format.

Good time management skills to meet goals within time constraints.

Experience in reserve estimation and evaluation of prospect economics

Familiarity with data acquisition, acquisition project planning, QC and processing

Ability to contribute effectively and creatively as an individual and as a member of multidiscipline teams

Meeting goals within time constraints

Good problem-solving skills, communication skills and established drive for results

Functions well in team-based environment; can effectively establish and maintain peer relationships

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geoscience or related discipline is acceptable

Master's degree in Geology or Geoscience or related discipline is preferred

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the Geology, Geoscience, field petroleum exploration and/or development

Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience working onshore areas of clastic sedimentation

Experience creating seismically-constrained geologic models (Petrel preferred).

Experience in reserve estimation and evaluation of prospect economics.
