Assist with in-depth visual and mechanical inspections of sign and signal structures, luminaires, and other highway structures to discover deterioration, damage, and defects that would affect the life, serviceability and safety of the structure. Assists with the preparation and distribution of structural inspection reports and related documentation to relate the findings of the inspection to others in a clear and concise manner. Checks information in paper and electronic inspection report files and updates as necessary. Assists with the collection of structural data and dimensions of components. Assist Team Leader in creating new inventory records and updating existing structure inventory and assessment data in PONTIS. Promotes and practices safe work habits including use of personal safety gear and equipment to achieve an accident-free environment at all times. This position will be required to work during emergency situations, which may include work outside normal work hours, nights and weekend. May be required to work scheduled overtime.

Ability to read and understand sign,signal, luminaire and bridge plans and specifications. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including the rendering of diagrams and sketches when necessary. Skill in mathematics and geometry and the use of inspection equipment. Basic PC skill and knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience preparing and maintaining detailed information and files. Valid Driver's License required at time of hire with ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire.
Experience with sign, signal, and luminaire and bridge safety inspection procedures and/or sign, signal, luminaire and bridge maintenance and repair activities. Knowledge of the functional behavior of structural components. Current CDL. High school diploma with courses in math and geometry or equivalent combination of education, training and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the position duties.
Demonstrated ability to physically perform actual hands-on inspection of bridges and other highway structures. Ability to perform work under close or hazardous conditions, including work over and around water, at heights, in confined spaces, in close proximity to high speed traffic, and under other hazardous conditions. Safety shoes and other personal safety gear are required in performance of job duties. Valid Driver's License.
