Responsible for the care of the museum's collections of artifacts, archives and library materials. Clean and insure cleaning of artifacts and exhibits including outdoor bronze sculptures. Insure proper storage of all collections. Complete object condition reports. Maintain and insure accuracy of collection records. Provide routine conservation services and coordinate outside conservators as necessary. Conduct training for and oversee work of various team members on object handling, minor treatments, IPM, and cleaning. Prepare collections for exhibition and assist with installation of long-term and temporary exhibitions. Maintain necessary installation, conservation and shipping supplies. Assist with crating and shipping of exhibition material and coordinate shipping schedules. Assist in establishing collections related to museum policies and long-term planning. Work with other departments to secure support for issues involving the museum and collections. Identify and assist in writing collections related grants. Assist in advancing the museum's leadership role in the history of the horse through thoughtful and practical collections acquisition and interpretation. Enhance the understanding, appreciation, profile and accessibility of the museum's collections through exhibitions, publications, the internet and various other educational programs of the museum and park. Provide leadership in evaluating and proposing acquisitions and gifts by providing research, and justifications for accepting or rejecting potential acquisitions. Broaden the base of support for the museum's collections activities among individuals and other institutions. Assist and participate in developing a visionary plan for the museum's collections and collecting activities as they relate to the overall strategic planning initiatives of the museum. Work with other staff on interpretation and education programs. Conduct tours of exhibitions and collections. Collaborate with other staff on the long-term development and refinement of the Library to serve the needs of the staff, scholars, students, and the general public.
